Life on the road in July going east…

On the 5th we decided that we were off to see the parents, packed up the car, threw the dog and Samantha in the back, and headed out around 12:30. We drove about 150 miles, stopped and slept for an hour, drove another 100 miles and then stopped for the night. We slept in the car for a few hours and got started again in the morning around 4:30. We then drove all the way to the south rim of the Grand Canyon on the 6th. It was raining so we rented a hotel room for the night. In the morning of the 7th we drove along the rim of the canyon and took pictures. We made it all the way to the Mesa Verde NP in southern Colorado and set up camp around 8:30. We had dinner and got to sleep around midnight. In the morning of the 8th we broke camp, washed the sheets and dog bed that the dog threw up on during the trip to the campground. We toured the cliff dweller houses along the rim and eventually headed out to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We set up camp, took pictures and eventually got to bed. On the morning of the 9th we broke camp, took more pictures, and headed north to Glenwood Springs to see Dave Petrini. We arrived at the Red Rock campground, got a free site and set up camp. On the 10th Samantha and I went white water rafting on the Colorado river. We broke camp around noon and headed to Denver to see my cousin “Uncle Tom”. Tom and Cindy took us to dinner that evening. We spent the night in their home which was under construction. On the morning of the 11th we drove through Kansas to see the Hills. They are living in a museum called “Diastole” or the heart at rest.  It is an amaising place dedicated to people coming together and sharing ideas. We had pizza and beer (the first drinks in July) and laughed until we cried.  We packed up on the morning of the 12th around 12:00 and drove to St. Louis to see the arch.  After taking a few pictures we drove all the way to Frankfort, arriving at 6:00 on the morning of the 13th.  On the morning of the 14th Carl and Danny arrived.  While here we have canoed Long Lake, walked the Crystal Lake property, had a dinner party, toured the Sleeping Bear NP, and lounged around the pool. On the 17th Carl and Danny drove Samantha to Indianapolis so she could catch a flight home.  Last night the dog got sprayed by a skunk, UGH! I will post more about the westward leg of the trip later.
